Nerve Regeneration Research

Dr. Jeffrey M. Ahn

To improve treatment options for people with facial nerve paralysis or injury, Dr. Ahn and colleagues  are studying ways to stimulate the facial nerve to regenerate itself. They are currently working with various growth factors related to facial nerve injury, including retrograde injury signal peptides.

Dr. Ahn collaborates with physicians in the departments of Neuropathology and Neuroanatomy at Columbia Presbyterian. Together, they analyze specimens obtained from facial nerve injury sites in animal models. Analysis of these specimens provides insight into the mechanisms by which the facial nerve regenerates. Results of this research may lead to the development of new therapies for patients who have suffered facial nerve paralysis.

Main areas of Present research:
1. Facial Nerve Regeneration-role of loral factors
2. Pathogenesis of chronic Rhinosinusitis-role of loral factors.
