The Otology and Neurotology Division of the Department of Otolaryngology is a team of specialists who treat diseases of the ear and skull base. Our surgeons perform otologic and neurotologic surgery, including:

procedures for diseases of the ear, including chronic otitis media, acoustic neuroma, cholesteatoma, otosclerosis, perforation of the tympanic membrane, and Meniere's disease

surgery for skull base tumors, including cerebellar-pontine angle tumors, cholesterol granuloma, glomus jugulare, and meningioma

hearing restoration surgery, including cochlear implantation, brain stem implantation, and implantable hearing aids

facial nerve disorders such as Bell's palsy, Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome, and tumors of the facial nerve.

The Otology and Neurotology division has earned a national reputation as a premier center for the surgical restoration of hearing. Our surgeons regularly perform cochlear implantation in profoundly deaf children and adults. In conjunction with the division of Audiology and Speech Pathology, this division is an investigative site for ongoing research on the benefits of cochlear implantation. This continuous research allows our surgeons to provide the most advanced level of understanding and experience in cochlear implantation.

Our experience with vestibular disorders is unparalleled as well. We are an active center for research and clinical treatment of all disorders of vertigo, including medical and surgical therapies for Meniere's disease and the complete range of rare balance and gait disorders.
