Columbia’s Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is in the midst of a period of growth, with the recent recruitment of four highly accomplished specialists (from left), including chair Lawrence R. Lustig, MD, Anil K. Lalwani, MD, Jason A. Moche, MD, and Rahmatullah W. Rahmati, MD. The department now offers comprehensive subspecialty care and provides rapid triage and evaluations within 48 hours.
Lawrence R. Lustig, MD, has been named Howard W. Smith Professor and Chair of the Department. Dr. Lustig is one of the nation’s leading experts in hearing loss, with more than 18 years of experience. He treats a broad range of ear disorders, including hearing loss, vertigo, facial nerve disorders, and skull base tumors such as acoustic neuroma. Dr. Lustig specializes in cochlear implantation and other implantable hearing devices and is also one of the lead investigators on the first gene therapy trial to restore hearing in people with an advanced hearing loss.
